Isaias Umali III is a New York native, guitarist, composer, and occasional visual artist, Isaias discovered music at a young age when he was introduced to the family stereo system to keep him quiet in the house. Influenced by Jazz, Classical, Hip Hop, Indie, Metal, and Electronic, Isaias enjoys blurring the lines between these genres to create music that seems familiar yet unique. A founding participant of Carnegie Hall’s Musical Connections program at Sing Sing Correctional Facility, Isaias realized music can be used both as a therapeutic form of self-expression and a tool to build a supportive community in a place of isolation and conflict. He is currently a member of the Musical Connections Advisory Committee, who have performed at Carnegie Hall, Global Citizen, RFK Human Rights Foundation, Center for Justice, Just Societies, and Create Justice Forum. Isaias hopes that his life experience and music influences society’s perceptions of system involved individuals for them to gain understanding and acceptance.
