Daniele Lorenzini is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Center for Contemporary Critical Thought (Columbia University) and at the Institut des Sciences Juridique et Philosophique de la Sorbonne (University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne).
Daniele holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Paris-Est and La Sapienza University of Rome. He has been a Temporary Lecturer in Philosophy and Ethics at the University of Paris-Est (2014-2016) and a Research Assistant at the University of Paris-Est and the Technische Universität München (2013-2014). Post-Kantian European philosophy constitutes the center of gravity of his work, but he possesses secondary areas of scholarly and teaching expertise in political philosophy, moral philosophy, ordinary language philosophy, ancient philosophy, medical ethics, bioethics, and the history of human rights.
Daniele is the author, most recently, of Éthique et politique de soi: Foucault, Hadot, Cavell et les techniques de l’ordinaire (Vrin, 2015). He is the co-editor, with Henri-Paul Fruchaud, of Michel Foucault’s conferences Dire vrai sur soi-même (Vrin, forthcoming), Discours et vérité précédé de La parrêsia (Vrin, 2016), Qu’est-ce que la critique? suivi de La culture de soi (Vrin, 2015), and L’origine de l’herméneutique de soi (Vrin, 2013; English translation: About the Beginning of the Hermeneutics of the Self, The University of Chicago Press, 2015).
Daniele is also the author of Jacques Maritain e i diritti umani: Fra totalitarismo, antisemitismo e democrazia, 1936-1951 (Morcelliana, 2012) and he recently edited a collection of Maritain’s essays on anti-Semitism: Contro l’antisemitismo: Dignità della persona, mistero di Israele, sionismo (Morcelliana, 2016). Daniele is a founder and editor of the peer-reviewed journal materiali foucaultiani and of the book series ‘Philosophie du présent’ (Vrin).
