In preparation of the sixth seminar, we encourage you to visit the Foucault 13/13 blog. You will find articles introducing and discussing ‘Society Must Be Defended’ (1976), as well as reading suggestions. Please join in the conversation by commenting on the articles.
This sixth session will take place at the Heyman Center in the Common Room at 6:15 pm sharp. You can get to the center following these directions. The list of participants will be at the entrance.
There will be a live, active “live-stream and tweeting” room (the “LST room”). For this session, the LST Room will be located in the Heyman Center, Board Room, on the ground floor. You can learn about the LST room here. We are using almost adjoining rooms (seminar and LST) so that we can fill the seminar room to maximum capacity. For the Twitter conversation, we will be using the hashtag #Foucault1313.
If you would like to watch the seminar elsewhere, the seminar will be live-streaming and accessible here, on the multimedia page of the website of the Columbia Center for Contemporary Critical Thought. If you have any problems with this site, you can live-stream directly from this portal: www.totalwebcasting.com/live/columbialaw. Please remember to refresh your browser if you experience any problem. After the seminar, each seminar will also be available 24 hours later at the same websites.
The seminar discussion will assume familiarity with the volume, but will focus on the following chapters:
- First lesson, January 7 1976.
- Second lesson, January 14 1976
- Eleventh lesson, March 17th 1976
- Course Summary
Book Culture on 112th Street and Albertine on 79th and 5th Avenue should carry copies of the French and English editions.
