On February 6, 2018, counsel for Doyle Hamm respectfully urged the Governor of Alabama, Kay Ivey, to grant mercy in Doyle’s case and stop his execution by lethal intravenous injection. “I urge you to consider exercising your clemency authority and to grant Doyle Hamm a commutation. Clemency is meant to prevent unjust executions,” counsel wrote. “These extraordinary circumstances, which would make executing Doyle Hamm potentially inhumane and unconstitutional, unfortunately pose such a risk.
