February 14, 2018 | Counsel for Doyle Hamm pleads with Governor Kay Ivey for a limited reprieve to avoid a flawed execution


On February 14, 2018, counsel for Doyle Hamm pleaded with the Governor of Alabama, Kay Ivey, to grant mercy and a limited reprieve to allow the federal courts a little time to properly assess his medical condition. “Doyle Hamm’s case in the federal courts is moving at lightening speed,” counsel wrote, “far too fast to ensure that his execution is not flawed and would not ultimately undermine justice, to the detriment of the State of Alabama.” Specifically, counsel warned that the speed at which the case is moving will not ensure that his execution is not botched.
