While all 11 store employees initially signed petition cards for a union vote, the vote <a href=\"https:\/\/www.longislandpress.com\/2022\/05\/03\/massapequa-starbucks-first-to-unionize-on-long-island-great-neck-vote-fails\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">failed 5-6<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had already been warning customers that I was going to get fired,\u201d Chuquillanqui told the\u00a0<i>Press<\/i>. \u201c[Management was] trying to make an example out of me and make everyone more complacent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Documents obtained by the\u00a0<i>Press<\/i>\u00a0show that Chuquillanqui, who worked at Starbucks for seven years, was terminated for latenesses beginning in April and a July incident of misplacing a key to the store, located at 6 Great Neck Rd. in Great Neck Plaza.<\/p>\n<p>Chuquillanqui claims she was only ever 3 to 10 minutes late at most, while other employees who were 30 to 45 minutes late have not been reprimanded. She also says that she informed her manager about the missing key and followed protocol until it was found.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe hadn\u2019t had a single writeup until April of this year, coincidentally when her store\u2019s union vote was \u2013 and started getting written up for minor infractions (such as being 3 minutes late),\u201d Starbucks Workers United said in a statement. \u201cShe was ultimately fired for misplacing a store key despite immediately informing her manager.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Screenshots of two of Chuquillanqui\u2019s July latenesses mentioned in her termination letter show she was five and three minutes late. Starbucks Workers United has filed an unfair labor practice charge alleging \u201cretaliatory termination for Joselyn\u2019s union activity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chuquillanqui\u2019s firing comes after Austin Locke, a Starbucks worker and union organizer in Queens, was fired on July 5.
