\nJean Louise Cohen is Nell and Herbert M. Singer Professor of Political Thought and Contemporary Civilization at Columbia University. Professor Cohen\u2019s fields of expertise include critical theory, sovereignty, human rights, religion and democratic constitutionalism, gender and the law. Professor Cohen is the author of\u00a0Class and Civil Society: The Limits of Marxian Critical Theory<\/em>\u00a0(1982), coauthor (with Andrew Arato) of\u00a0Civil Society and Political Theory<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(1992), and author of\u00a0Regulating Intimacy: A New Legal Paradigm<\/em>\u00a0<\/a>(2002),\u00a0Globalization and Sovereignty: Rethinking Legality, Legitimacy, and Constitutionalism<\/a><\/em>\u00a0(2012). Professor Cohen recently coedited\u00a0Religion, Secularism, and Constitutional Democracy<\/a><\/em>\u00a0\u00a0(2016) with C\u00e9cile Laborde. She is currently the co-editor of\u00a0Constellations: An International Journal of Critical and Democratic Theory<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Professor Cohen has been appointed Spring 2016 Senior Fellow at the Jean Monnet Center \u2013 New York University School of Law.\u00a0She has also taught abroad at many institutions including the Johann Wolfgang Goethe Universitat in Germany and, in France, over the years several times as a visiting professor at Sciences Po, and at the EHESS; as an Alliance Professor La Sorbonne, Paris 1 ; and as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the Coll\u00e8ge de France.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
