He has been a member of the scientific committee for human sciences of the International Conference on AIDS (1986\u201394); member of the World Commission for AIDS (World Health Organization) (1988\u201393); member of the National Committee for AIDS (1989\u201398), of the Global AIDS Policy Coalition of\u00a0Harvard University\u00a0(1994\u20131997), and of the French &#8220;Haut Comit\u00e9 de la Sant\u00e9 Publique&#8221; (from 1998).<\/p>\n<p>After the death of his partner, Michel Foucault, Defert founded\u00a0AIDES, the first AIDS awareness organization in France. H<sup id=\"cite_ref-lhumanitequandonquestionne_1-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>e served as its president from 1984 to 1991.<\/p>\n<p>Defert is author of numerous articles in the domain of ethno-iconography and\u00a0public health, and is an editor fo Foucault&#8217;s writings.
