Harcourt in the\u00a0<em>New York Review of Books<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20181130013820\/https:\/\/www.nybooks.com\/daily\/2018\/11\/29\/how-trump-fuels-the-fascist-right\/\">on-line<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><time>November 29, 2018<\/time><\/p>\n<p>President Trump makes constant use of the language and logic of the \u201cnew right,\u201d a toxic blend of antebellum white supremacy, twentieth-century fascism, European far-right movements of the 1970s, and today\u2019s self-identified \u201calt-right.\u201d And his words and deeds have empowered and enabled an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defenseone.com\/threats\/2018\/02\/national-security-pros-its-time-talk-about-right-wing-extremism\/146319\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">upsurge<\/a> of white nationalists and extremist organizations\u2014from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.splcenter.org\/fighting-hate\/extremist-files\/group\/atomwaffen-division\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Atomwaffen<\/a> to the Proud Boys to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/opinion\/op-ed\/la-oe-picciolini-white-supremacists-20181007-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rise Above Movement<\/a>\u2014that threatens to push the country into violent social conflict. Amplified by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/11\/24\/opinion\/sunday\/facebook-twitter-terrorism-extremism.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a>, this new right rhetoric is inciting unstable men to violence through pipe-bomb mailings and temple shootings.
