He teaches and researches widely in the fields of twentieth-century and contemporary history. From a start in modern German history with a special focus on the history of economics and economic history his interests have widened to take in a range of themes in political, intellectual and military history, across a canvass stretching from Europe across the Atlantic. His most recent book was\u00a0<em>The Deluge: The Great War and the Remaking of the Global Order, 1916-1931<\/em>.\u00a0 His new book\u00a0<em><a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/adamtooze.com\/books\/crashed-2018\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Crashed<\/a>: How a Decade of Financial Crises<\/em>\u00a0C<em>hanged the World<\/em>\u00a0will be out on August 7 2018.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Professor Adam Tooze holds the Shelby Cullom Davis Chair of History at Columbia University and serves as Director of the European Institute.
