Williams is a preeminent American legal scholar and a founder\u00a0of critical race theory, a school of legal thought that emphasizes race as a fundamental determinant of the American legal system.<\/p>\n<p>Patricia Williams is currently the James L. Dohr Professor of Law at Columbia University where she has taught since 1991.\u00a0On March 1, 2013, Columbia Law School&#8217;s Center for Gender &amp; Sexuality Law honored her with a symposium<span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px; line-height: 20px;\">\u00a0<\/span>featuring Anita Hill, Lani Guinier, and others.\u00a0Prior to coming to Columbia, she worked as a consumer advocate in the office of the City Attorney in Los Angeles, was a fellow in the School of Criticism and Theory at Dartmouth College, and served as associate professor at the University of Wisconsin Law School and its department of women&#8217;s studies.<\/p>\n<p>Patricia Williams has published widely in the areas of race, gender, and law, and on other issues of legal theory and legal writing. Her books include <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hup.harvard.edu\/catalog.php?isbn=9780674014718\">The Alchemy of Race and Rights<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(Harvard, 1991); <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hup.harvard.edu\/catalog.php?isbn=9780674779433&amp;content=reviews\">The Rooster&#8217;s Egg<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(Harvard, 1997); and<em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Seeing-Color-Blind-Future-Paradox-Lectures\/dp\/0374525331\">Seeing a Color Blind Future: The Paradox of Race<\/a> <\/em>(Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1998).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Patricia J.
