It is intended as a complement to our <a href=\"https:\/\/columbiaclimatelaw.com\/program-areas\/adaptation-law\/#handbooks\" target=\"_blank\">Handbook of Adaptation Advocacy Strategies<\/a> and other <a href=\"https:\/\/columbiaclimatelaw.com\/program-areas\/adaptation-law\/publications\/\" target=\"_blank\">publications<\/a> on the topic of adaptation. Some of the topics covered include:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">\u2022\u00a0 Federal laws that can be interpreted as requiring the federal government or private actors to prepare for and mitigate risks related to climate change<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">\u2022\u00a0 Common law doctrines that can be used to compel government actors to prepare for and mitigate risks related to climate change<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">\u2022\u00a0 The role of local land use and planning laws in climate change adaptation<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">\u2022\u00a0 The role of building codes in climate change adaptation<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">\u2022\u00a0 The extent to which contractual, fiduciary and professional obligations entail obligations related to the disclosure and\/or mitigation of climate change-related risks<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Our faculty director Michael Gerrard has also published a book that contains a more in-depth analysis of many of these legal issues: <a href=\"https:\/\/shop.americanbar.org\/eBus\/Store\/ProductDetails.aspx?productId=215094\" target=\"_blank\">The Law of Adaptation to Climate Change: U.S. and International Aspects (Michael B.
