Professor Brennan received his Ph.D. in Mathematics before attending law school, and worked at Cravath, Swaine & Moore and Goldman Sachs before returning to academia.
Professor Brennan is currently visiting Columbia from Northwestern, where his research is focused on the use of finance and economic theory to analyze and inform tax policy. His other research interests include the application of finance theory to the law in areas other than tax, the empirical analysis of corporate financing decisions, and the empirical study of judicial behavior. SLST is proud to sponsor, along with CBLA and CLES, a panel discussion on the regulatory and legal trends surrounding the public ledger database known as the “Blockchain,” which is integral to the functioning of Bitcoin. Our panelists will introduce you to the tech basics before moving on to the legal landscape and to hot topics such as “Smart Contracts.” You will also learn about the involvement of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, the SEC, the IRC and the CFTC.
This panel will be extremely useful to all law students who seek to distinguish themselves by demonstrating knowledge of the latest legal topics.
