Professor Melissa L. Breger is an Associate Clinical Professor of Law and the Director of the Domestic Violence Program at Albany Law School of Union University. She currently is teaching Children and the Law, teaches the Domestic Violence Seminar, and runs an in-house clinic: Family Violence Litigation Project. After graduating from the University of Michigan Law School in 1994, Professor Breger practiced family law in a variety of agencies in New York City, most notably the Legal Aid Society, Juvenile Rights Division, Brooklyn office. There, she also supervised NYU law students in the Juvenile Justice Clinic. Professor Breger returned to the University of Michigan in 1999 to teach at her alma mater in the Child Advocacy Law Clinic. While in this position, she earned the L. Hart Wright Award for Excellence in Law Teaching in 2002. After returning to New York to teach at Albany Law School, she was subsequently awarded the 2005 Shanara Gilbert Award by the American Association of Law Schools (AALS), which honors a clinical professor who has both taught for less than ten years, and who contributes to social justice. Professor Breger is the author of several law review articles, and is currently working on co-authoring a forthcoming book supplement.
