H.R.:1593 Second Chance Act of 2007 – the Second Chance Act reauthorizes the grant program for reentry of offenders into the community in the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968, and improves reentry planning and implementation.  This bill passed in the House of Representatives by roll call vote on November 13, 2007.  Click here to read more.

November 2nd, 2007Marijuana and College Aid

New York Times editorial suggesting that Congress is using federal college aid as “a weapon of enforcement” when it comes to denying college aid to those charged for drug offenses. Although Congress eliminated a provision last year denying assistance to those with a drug conviction record, the Times is calling on the repeal of the law that affects students who commit crimes while receiving aid.
